The NATO Standardization Agreement (STANAG) was created to build a common framework for security policies and confidentiality metadata to facilitate information sharing between member nations and industry partners.
Cord3 security labelling is based on:
- STANAG 4774: Describes metadata syntax for labelling.
- STANAG 4778: Describes binding mechanisms and syntax.
A security label is attached to each data object in the network. The label can contain security metadata attributes, such as classification, need-to-know caveats, and releasability information.
Within the DCS assurance model, security metadata is used to:
- Support the establishment of communities of interest.
- Provide granular access control over project level assets.
- Control the flow of information within and outside the organizational boundary.
